From waste to energy: a reliable and renewable source
Since 2016, Biogás Colombia has been converting the biogas it produces into clean electrical energy that is available around the clock. We are the first and only company in Colombia with this technical and operational capacity.
Our process combines the extraction, purification, and use of biogas through MWM motor generators designed to operate at an altitude of 2,850 m with high-purity biogas. We currently operate two plants connected to the El Tesoro (Usme) and Colmotores (Bosa) power grids, ensuring stability and a continuous supply.
Capacity and expansion
Our current infrastructure generates 1.7 MW and will reach 15 MW (June 2026). This expansion will also enable an increase in the generation of emission certificates beyond the current 800,000 tCO₂e/year.
Technology and efficiency
Each of our nine motor generators (MWM TCG 20 with state-of-the-art technology (2024) and an output of 1,813 kW/h at 2,850 m above sea level in low voltage (480 V)) is connected to an upward transformer (11.4 kV or 34.5 kV) and to protective cells that ensure a safe and efficient connection to the local power grid.
